In our “Goodbye Paris Accord…” blog, we discussed some of the ways the team at Boer Brothers is working to reduce our environmental impact. But we need your help! Working together, we can fight to preserve the environment, locally and globally. Here are five easy ways you can live green this summer in The Triangle.
1. Line dry clothes
Your clothes dryer uses a large amount of energy each time it runs. In addition, it can raise the humidity level in your home and wear your clothes down over time. Instead of running the dryer, use a clothesline to hang dry your clothes outside. Sometimes the old-fashioned way is best!
2. Live green and drive smart
This one’s a win-win. Traffic in the Triangle can make the work commute almost unbearable. Why waste your fuel and time simultaneously? Take advantage of the apps on your smartphone that provide you with the most efficient route for your travel. Want to really make a difference? Find a buddy to carpool with in order to cut way down on your drive time commute.
3. Turn off the lights
There may be no simpler way to reduce your carbon footprint than by turning off the lights in empty rooms. With the flick of a switch, you can significantly decrease your energy usage this summer. Also, switch your lamps and fixtures to CFLs for more efficient lighting.
4. Turn up the thermostat
Each degree you turn up the thermostat can drastically lower your energy usage and costs. And by closing your window blinds and running the ceiling fans, you can still stay cool and comfortable this summer in Chapel Hill.
5. Shop local in Durham, NC
The things we consume all attribute to greenhouse gas emissions. However, the shorter the distance they have to travel, the lower the environmental impact. Therefore, why not enjoy all that the Triangle has to offer? Shop at one of the many local boutiques for the latest fashions, and check out our local farmers markets to support our region’s farmers. You’ll find that there’s nowhere quite like The Triangle- it’s an area worth preserving!
Living green is a community effort, and it’s at the heart of what we do at Boer Brothers Heating & Cooling. Call us today to see how else you can help protect our planet.
